![]() My Path to Becoming a Writer
My writing journey has been a long and winding path from technical editor to published creative writer. I stepped away from full time technical editing in 2003, and began to try my hand at fiction, essays and poetry. Taking the big step, from writing short articles, flash fiction, and creative essays, to writing a novel, was triggered by a dare to try NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), way back in 2007. This stream-of-conscious writing project, which requires participants to create a draft novel of no less than 50,000 words in thirty days, was exhilarating, freeing and confidence-building. I was crazy enough to jump back into the fray in 2008, and my NaNo draft novel written in 2011 set the groundwork for my finished book, Dancing Between the Beats. For the full story, read my notes under Short Fiction & Poetry, where you can also find links to some of my work.
